Prior to any OEM wire harness mods, ensure you leave enough wire to enable the return to OEM specs. This would make it rather easy to forget they were on during daylight hours. IMHO the biggest flaw - there is no dash indication of the fog lights operational condition (off / on indicator light). Now comes the part where you need to stop and think about the inherent design flaws of the OEM design. In that configuration, it operated just like normal. I then ran a wire from the new circuit/fuse box to the High amperage input side of the relay. It was $2 to get in the yard a I didn't get charged for these parts. The fuse box is held together by the BIG fuse hardware and plastic locking tabs, pretty easy to take apart/reassemble. I found a similar year Mazda (323/Protégé) in the local junkyard that happened to use the same under-hood fuse box and pulled out some of the internal bits (and 15A fuse) to fill in the empty slot in my Miata. The fog light harness was wired to the high amperage output side of the relay. I then wired the fog light output wire (bullet connector) to the control side of the relay. I installed the JDM combo switch (bought from site sponsor). I would think this has to do with the amperage rating of the headlight / fog light circuit - we don't want to melt, set anything on fire or so overload the circuit/fuse that we loose lighting operation. I would recommend the OEM type (new/used) for the simplicity.Īs mentioned, the factory wire harness has the fog lights running off the headlight relay only on low beam. If you just have a blank plate, you can just add the US Spec fog light switch. If you have the hardtop defroster switch installed/operational in your car, you will need the JDM defrost/fog light combo switch if you want both (it's plug and play). Any decent fog light kit will have the wire harness needed to attach to this point. This is the "power out" connection for the fog lights. It should lay on the driver's side fender near the brake fluid reservoir. With the hood open, look for a (green?) wire that is terminated with an uncovered male bullet connector (not the normal spade type). The '95 should have the wiring for the "optional" fog lights (its my understanding this was a dealer installed option). If I get some things wrong others should correct shortly.
